The Compass Players
While The Second City’s name is synonymous with modern improvisational comedy, it is a little known fact that the genre was actually born at the University of Chicago in 1955. Political, satirical, and committed to social justice, the Compass Players invented improv as we know it today and occupied Chicago at the height of McCarthyism
